It's a quiet place but it was't what we were looking for as this village didn't offered us what Cuba is about.

The next day we took the bus to Trinidad and as we entered the village we and saw the surrounding through our windows we felt happy for being there. For the first time in our trip we saw a crowd of locals waiting for the tourists, they turned to be the owners of the Private Houses expecting to gain hosts for their houses. Leaving this behind and walking on the stoned streets of Trinidad we liked the place more and more on each step. There was live music on the streets, their colourful houses, smiling people...
We spent the first night in a house that arranged someone in Havana for us but the house next door 'Hostal Alameda' was the place where we ended up on our second night and where we spent 4 more nights.

We were very lucky of finding this stunning house as Danielle (the owner) recently opened the business. She is a french Canadian and lives there with her son Fabio (a young charming gentleman) and her dog Lucero (a fanatic of Norah Jones). They have an spectacular house and the service is exceptionally good. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to go to Trinidad.
We felt like at home with them and made us fell like part of the family.

In Trinidad we visited Topes de Collante, Playa Ancón and went on a horseback riding day trip. Everyday turned to be special but the one we remember the most was the horse-ride. Together with Fabio and Danielle (she has her own horse) went to a farmers house where we drank 'Guarapo' a drink made of sugar cane and lemon (that was very refreshing!). After this stop we went took our horses againg and ended to a waterfall where Albert jumped in the water even though the water was quite cold.

Unfortunately we had to continue and leave this amazing place behind otherwise we took the risk of being trapped and spending the rest of our holidays there. So we continued to Playa Larga...

Habana

Luckily we got to Cuba after all the hazzle we had in Spain with the Air Traffic Controllers. On the day we took the plane we didn't have any problem. On the plane we met Romy and Martin who we shared the taxi with down to the city center. Even though it was dark we enjoyed the view of the old classic american cars. These machines make the place unique and special.

The taxi left us to the Private House 'Martha Obregon' we arranged from Spain and getting of the car was a bit scary since we didn't know the place, it was dark as there wasn't much light on the street and we didn't know what to expect of the house.
In the house we met Martha who was very kind with us and gave us some information about the city.

In the morning we went to visit the city and walked around Havana Vieja and Havana Centro. The place is very hectic but its got its charm as well. It's a city of contrasts as you can find the rationing stores and the souvenir places; buildings in very bad conditions and people living there offering accomodation for tourists. People stop the tourists to ask for shampoo, clothes or anything you could give them. But they try to be discreet as this is not allowed and they could be punished.
By the end of the day we felt a bit stressed and happy for leaving the city the next day.

General

First of all apologies for not posting any news as in this country is very difficult to get Internet access.

We've chosen this country after much thought for several reasons, among them: their history, the cultural diferences we have, the climate, their politic situation,..

The Best Job in the World

YES!!! You cross the boarder by boat and this is where my travels to Laos started.
From here there are two options to get to Luang Prabang (which is the first city that I visited in Laos): slow boat which takes two days or speed boat which takes 6 hours.
Me and 7 other people took the speed boat (picture below). It was a bit unconfortable since you don't have any leg room but I found it quite a fun ride. During the 7 hour ride we had time to stop one hour for lunch, fish trading and culture exchange.

Luang Prabang is a beautifull city. It used to be the capital of Laos but nowadays is just the second biggest city in Laos. In the afternoon they close the main street for the traffic and this is converted into a market. It is a place with lovely atmosphere and they all sell the same (T-shirts, fisherman trousers, bags with numer one simbol and quilts) but it is definetly worthwhile seeing it!
From there you can go to the outskirt of the city to visit local villages, waterfalls and parks. There are many beautifull waterfalls as the one seen below. The one that I went to see also have a tiger and bears on captivity for protection purposes.
On our way back from the waterfall we saw some rice fields and went into a village. There were lovely children but it was hard to see how much they crave for tourists to visit them and sell them something (even if it's just to get money in exchange of a photo!)

North Thailand

Well here is where I started by myself... I took an overnight train to Chiang Mai. I must say that it's been one of the most confortable night journeys that I've done...
There I was supposed to go for a day trip but unfortunately couldn't go and instead I visited the night Bazar and enjoyed a foot massage.
I took the local bus to Chiang Saen (this is an area in the Golden Triangle - from here you can see Laos, Burma and Thailand only separeted by the Mekong River) were I met a friend of mine that lives there and manages a beautiful hotel. Ivan spoiled me offering me a room in the hotel (Thanks for that Ivan!!!)
From there I went to Chiang Kong (on the way I was the only western person and they felt very curious about it. So, they made big efforts to communicate and talk to me) and got ready to cross the Thai border into Laos...

South East Asia

Before getting to Thailand I was sooooo nervous. It was the challange of my trip and I was very scared... Before I got to Bangkok I made a booking at the Hilton so I spoiled myself staying there. So, once I got to Bangkok I just had to go to the hotel but I found myself without any money and couldn't withdraw... Thanks to Campbell a NZ guy I was able to get a taxi, as he lend me the money for it (there's still good people in this world).
The day after, horrified, I went to the city and started getting used to the environment. After a few hours I was completely relaxed and was able to enjoy the beauty of the city of Bangkok. I went on a trip along the river stopping in different stations to see the sleeping Buda, The Grand Palace, food markets...

The day after of getting in Bangkok Cameron (some random Canadian that I met in Australia - Cam you know why I say that...) and I met up and have travelled together for a month.
It's been good to have a travel mate...

After Bangkok we went to an island Koh Samet. This island is quite small and the roads are not even paved... From there we moved to Koh Chang which is a bigger island. Here we went on an elephant ride. This was owesome specially when we were at the river. At night we saw some fireman dancers.

From there we moved on to Cambodia. This was a real experience! We spent half day to cross the border and when we got there we realised how far away we were of Siem Riep... This is the main place that we wanted to visit in Cambodia as is famous for its temples. The day after we spent 14hours to get just to Phom Phen (about 200Km). During the day we had to cross 4 rivers that didn't have any bridge, bumpy roads and we ended on a van with more than 17 people in it the last 4 hours of our trip to the capital. When we got there it was dark and honestly a bit scary.... The following day we got a bus to go to Siem Riep and that took us 6 hours aproximately. When we got there the taxi drivers jumped on us, they were talking to us all at the same time. It was quite claustrofobic... we couldn't even comunicate between us... However, I have to say that the whole adventure was worthwhile because the temples were amazing!!!! It was really like in the movie Tomb Raider....

Making our way to Thailand it was also an adventure... We got a car to Poipet (border point for crossing to Thailand) and it was a very bumpy ride. The taxi driver was driving so fast that we thought we would not make it to Thailand... After a full day travelling getting taxis, bus and even an airplane we got to Krabi. This is well know for its limestone mountains and I must say that the scenery was very impressive. We rented a bike to go around the area and explore...

From there we went to Koh Phi Phi where we stayed a few days. This island was afected by the Tsunami on December 2004 and they are still reconstructing the affected area... Here we celebrated the Thai New Year. They celebrate it with a water fight during the whole day. So, this is a day when wherever you go you get soacked! It was fun... The scenery and the sunsets on this island were spectacular.

And all that it's been a month. So now I'm heading north and travelling again on my own... It's been very exciting to be in South East Asia so far. I haven't been doing so many activities as in previous countries but here there's enough seeing how they live and visiting the amazing environment.

Changing Plans

Well as I mentioned in the previous post I've changed my trip plans. Since the cyclone I couldn't really do much on the east coast and for several reasons I flew to Sydney. I understand that a cyclone also hit last week Lombok so Bali is in the same situation and I better wait to go and see it. So, the plan now is:
- Friday 24th March: Sydney to Bangkok
- Saturday 25th June: Singapoure to Bali
- Thursday 6th July: Bali to Hong Kong
- Friday 14th July: Hong Kong to London

- Viernes 24 Marzo: Sydney - Bangkok
- Sabado 25 Junio: Singapoure - Bali
- Jueves 6 Julio: Bali - Hong Kong
- Viernes 14 Julio: Hong Kong - Londres

Australia

Hello everybody after the news about the cyclone... Everything was fine in the end and we were not affected by Larry! However, things were shaken up and I'm back to Sydney where I've rescheduled my trip.
Anyway, now I'm going to explain a little bit about my trip around Australia so far...
I first got to Sydney where I met with Schandel and Karl. They are Sam's friend (he is an Australian friend of mine from London). Anyway, I'm still in shock for how hospitable they were to me... We went to Bondi Beach, Luna Park, the Opera House, around the city and many more... I also went one day to the Blue Mountains from Sydney which it also was fantastic.

From Sydney I went on the night bus to Byron Bay where I only stayed one night as I found it very touristy. From there I moved to Noosa where the place was touristy but nicier. In Noosa I saw my first and only Koala and I saw more surfers around the beaches. It was then when I started thinking about taking a surfing lesson. And so I did take a lesson on the next destination - Rainbow Beach. Rainbow Beach is the gateaway to Fraser Island and a coastal village. So, from there I went to Fraser Island with 10 more people which were very good. We all worked as a team and made the experience unique and unforgetable. The experience of driving a 4x4 on a sand island was also very exciting.

It was a real pitty to leave my group behind. But I had to go to Arlie Beach where I would take my sailing boat to the Whitsunday's and get to see the Coral Reef. We left on the boat but we had to come back on the next morning because we had the cyclone on us. Unfortunately after the cyclone the water was so muddy that there was not going to be able to dive in the next 2 weeks. So, I haven't been able to see any coral or tropical fish this time apart from the fish tank in Townsville aquarium. I felt very lucky that on the day of the cyclone I met again with Lizzie (she was in my group for Fraser Island) and we sticked together during the alert. But not everything was bad in Arlie Beach since I had been able to enjoy a very good St Patricks night out.

Cyclone Harry

Probably you will hear about the cyclone Larry and think about me. Well, I am in Arlie Beach just below where the cyclone is going to hit (its supposed to affect mainly from Cairns to Townsville). So, unless it changes it's direction I'm only be affected by strong winds and some rain. The bad weather conditions are supposed to hit Arlie Beach around midnight until Monday morning. I will keep you updated as soon as I can...
I am going to break down the things that I've done on a daily basis as one thing very special about NZ is that you do or see something extraordinary every day. The picture on the left is in Picton. Where everybody coming from Wellington starts travelling around the South Island.

On the picture you see the group of people that we went kayaking on the Abel Tasman (a National Park in the North are of the South Island). The whole day kayaking was a bit hard but with beautiful suroundings seeing things like the Split Apple Rock (picture below). It was on that area as well when I experienced something completly new... I stayed with the people that I met next to an outdoor fireplace. It was the first time that I saw an outdoor fireplace but it created a very nice atmosphere.

From Abel Tasman I went to Kaikoura. House for whale watching and swiming with the dolphins. Unfortunately the day that we had in there it was raining but the next morning I went whale watching and it was amazing! When you see an 18metre whale you realise the grandeur of certain things. We also saw Dusky Dolphins in our way to the harbour which made the experience even better.

After going whale watching I went on a car with Fee, Lauren and Mariia to Christchurch via Hanmer Springs. We went to the hot pools in Hanmer Springs and when we got to Christchurch we had a Mexican themed dinner together.

Christchurch is a small city. It is very nice and the arquitecture is quite British. The museum is also very interesting as you can see from the history of NZ to various natural and geological phenomenons. From here, Mariia and I went to Akaroa (the only village with French influence - see picture). Akaroa is located on the peninsula, it's quite turisty but very nice and quiet. I went swiming with the dolphins here. I swam with Hector Dolphins which are the smaller dolphins on earth.

The following days I went from Akaroa to Arthur's Pass, Greymouth and Punakaiki. In Arthur's Pass I went on a day trek called Avalanche Peak. This was very hard as the way was very steep but it was worth it because the view from was amazing. I also had the chance to see Keas there (the biggest NZ parrot). Then the downhill was terrible as it is more painfull on the knees than the uphill. In Greymouth I had a quiet afternoon and then in Punakaiki I went to see the Pancake Rocks. These are very strange and interesting to see. With such a rough sea you wonder how they are still there...
Later on I went horse riding around the area and had my first gallop on a beach in my life (the feeling was extraordinary!)

In Punakaiki I met Raimon. The first catalan person at this end of the world! It is very dificult to see any Spanish around here...

The next morning of meeting Raimon I left to Franz Josef Glacier. I went with Inka and Tobias. They are a German couple and took me on their car. Franz Josef is a glacier are where you can do various activities . I stayed a total of 3 nights which seems an eternity when you are about one or two nights on every place. Here I met Blair. He is from New Zealand and showed me around the area a bit. Later on I met again with Mariia and Raimon. Constantly you meet with people that you know and realise how small is the world.
Anyway, in Franz Josef I enrolled for Ice Climbing. That was really exciting. It was a very good activity (highly recomended for everybody).

After all that live has still been hectic. I've been in Wanaka, Te Anau, Milford Sound, Doubtfull Sound, Dunedin and Ivercargill.
-Wanaka is a lovely place where I had the chance to chill a bit and enjoy of a great scenery. This town has a lake and its surrounded of spectacular mountains. Here I met with Raimon again and have travelled with him all around these places.
-Te Anau is a magic place with access to the most amazing sceneries in the world: Milford and Doubtfull Sounds. The mountains are so big that you feel as tiny as an antz. However, sunflies drives you crazy. There are so many that you cannot stop in one place without getting eaten alive.
After that we rented a car in Queenstown and drove around. Going to Dunedin and Otago Peninsula (where we saw Albatros) and Invercargill. Again all the scenery around us was so amazing that we could stop oohh aahhiing...

Today I'm back in Wanaka, alone again after almost a week which it makes it a bit strange now. But soon I'll be in Australia and will have new stories to tell you.

New Zealand

I am already at the South Island so I thought it would be better to tell you what I've done in the North Island...
The truth is that New Zealand is a beautiful country, people are very welcoming and nice. At the same time it offers lots to do and see....

I've spent a total of 7 days in the North Island and I've gone from Pahia in the Bay of Island to Wellington in that time. It may sound that I've rushed this island but people kept telling me not to spend too much time there as the South Island is supposed to be better. Its been intense, specially at the beginning, because when I first got to NZ I rent a car and drove to Bay of Island. Got there late (9pm) and due to the bank holiday weekend it was a nightmare to find accomodation. Unfortunately, the next morning I had to leave because it was raining... It is a nice and lovely place but I had no time to lose. Anyway I made my way to Rotorua where I stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed the scenery on my way there.

Rotorua is a volcanic area where there's lots to see for volcanic fans. In the same town there is a boiling lake and you can even smell the sulfur. Close by there is Wai-o-tapu which is a volcanic reserve and has one of the unic natural Geisers in the world. It was a real good experience to go around the sulfur pools (where an Asian person lost the camara as we saw falling into de pool) and seeing the volcanic formations.
As it was a beautiful day I made my way down to Taupo where I stayed on a viewpoint just overseeing the town and then I made my way to Huka Falls. I found myself a place on the same river where I enjoyed a nice couple of hours. It was amazing the beauty of the place. The water was crystal clear and even the ducks where coming to me...

After that I made my way to Waitomo Caves. When I got there I enjoyed a trip for Black Water Rafting. It consists on going inside of a Cave and seeing the formations, glowworms and enjoy yourself on the water. Cool experience!
That same day I decided to go to National Park and the following morning I made the Tongariro Crossing. This is another volcanic area and it consists on a 7 hour trek. On the top you can see the Emerald Lakes (as you can see below these are spectacular). I was completly exhausted when I finished but defenitly worth it!

After that I met Mariia. She is from Findland and we end up going to Taupo and jumping off an airplane. Yes! you've read it right - Sky Dive!!!! It is the most amazing experience I've ever had. You release such amount of adrenaline that your body doesn't react about what you are about to do and what you've done...

Anyway after that Mariia and I went South to New Palmeston. She knew some people there who kindly also welcomed me to stay at their place. I was very impressed with the amount of hospitality they offered me at all times. A real unique experience as well... Thank you Jo and Thane and of course to the girls as well!
And from there to Wellington where I took a ferry the day after to Picton (South Island). That night I couldn't find accomodation due to the Rugby games and I stayed with Sophie and Igor. They are a couple that I met in Fiji and live in Wellington. They also hosted me in their house making me feel once again at home. Thanks guys!

Fiji

Bula everybody which means Hello
When I just got to Fiji I was supposed to stay in Nadi (where I landed) and rest but instead I booked straight away a 6 night package to go around. So the same day I went to Robinson Cruseau Island. The conditions in this island were a bit precarious (shower consisted in a bucket of water a day) but me and the other people from the package (Emma, Ches and Gareth) enjoyed our stay there as people were very friendly and nice. We had lots of activities to do everyday and if we didn't want to joint them we could always enjoy the beach. The first day we also had the welcome ceremony with Kava (this is the traditional Fiji drink) and from there we became part of the village. After that the Fijians danced for us some typical dances.

From there we went to a place called Beachouse placed on the Coral Coast. In my opinion that was the best place that I stayed in Fiji during the 10 days. The place was very clean and the scenery was awesome! With beautiful sunsets and an interesting jungle trek.

We met lots of people everywhere from places all over the world. Everything was about Fiji time... that means that there is not such a rush like in London. You take everything easy and don't really rush for anything. It's been great the contrast from places as we were able to see from beach resorts to the Rain Forest near the capital (Suva).

Leaving Home

The time came when I had to leave Girona to go to London. I got ready and the saddest thing to do was to leave once again my family behind... It was a strange mix of feelings as I was very excited for the trip I had to come and a bit sad for leaving my family behind...
Anyway once ready I got to London where I tried to see as many friends from there as possible and had a few laughs. I want to take this opportunity to apologise to those that I didn't even have time to say hello...
Last year I decided to go on travelling during six months. The route is going to be around Australasia and Indochina. Many of you have asked me why I have decided of going so far or for so long... and the reason is that I find it a great experience in live and is something I always wanted to do... Being in London is something common going traveling but trust me in Spain is quite uncommon. During the 2 months that I've been in Spain I've felt a bit of a weirdo as people has comunicated how crazy I am for going alone and so far away...
